A new adult erotic romance
Rebecca Stark wants her best friend Jake, and she wants him bad. But not only is he the closest person to her in the world, he’s her writing partner too. Despite the longing she’s felt for him for years, she’s been able to keep her longing to herself.
Jake Alexander seems oblivious to Rebecca’s desire but as the writing duo decide to add an erotic twist to their latest book he discovers much more than mutual attraction bubbling below the surface.
Will penning a sex scene together prove to be too much temptation for these friends to resist? And once they head down the path of temptation will their relationship be strong enough to handle it?
Author’s Note: This smoking hot friends-to-lovers novella is intended for mature audiences who enjoy a steamy happily-ever-after between very close friends. No cheating, very low angst. Just good old-fashioned seduction.
An Excerpt from Penned
A couple of hours in, Jake stood and stretched. Rebecca couldn’t help but notice the gap between the end of the t-shirt and the top of his low-rise jeans as he reached his hands into the air. A line of dark hair grew downward and she quickly looked away, trying to hide the deep flush of her cheeks as her mind wandered to what the rest of him looked like below the belt.
He carried their mugs to the kitchen and refilled them both. “It’s still coming down out there,” he said and moved to the window to look out at the street. “Gotta be close to six inches by now.”
He came around behind her and set both mugs down. She stopped typing as he absently began kneading the muscles of her shoulders. She closed her eyes, tried not to moan aloud.
“Do you need to get going?”
His thumbs pressed into her shoulders, easing some of the tension but creating some too.
“Nah, a little snow doesn’t scare me.” He gave her a pat, grabbed his coffee, and sat back down. She had a hard time remembering what she’d been about to type before he touched her.
“So I’ve been thinking,” he said.
“Come on.” He gave her a look that said he was about to get serious. “I’ve been thinking that we need to put a sex scene in here this time. Somewhere around chapter four when Alexis finds out she’s not getting to go to Andromeda.”
Rebecca’s face flushed instantly but he was staring right at her so she couldn’t hide it.
“I don’t think we need to do that.”
“Why not? Greyson and Alexis have been flirting with each other at every turn for three novels now. I think it’s time they got together. It’s what the readers want.”
She wasn’t sure if that was true, but it did follow, and it would fill out the section they’d been struggling with nicely. Besides, someone in this arrangement should be getting laid.
“I can write it by myself if it’s too awkward for you,” he said.
“Oh no. I don’t think so.” The last thing she wanted was for him to write an entire sex scene by himself with the characters they’d worked so hard to create together.
“So let’s do it then.”
Rebecca frowned and looked away. On one hand she was incredibly turned on by the idea. On the other she was terrified to expose her carefully hidden desire to him or, worse yet, jeopardize their friendship in some way.
“Can’t we just have them hook up and then close the door on the reader and show them the next day?”
“That’s no fun. Besides, I want to push these characters a little. The publisher can always make us change it if they don’t like it.” He paused and a smile played on his lips. “Let’s just write an all-out sex scene and see what happens.”
It made a sort of sense. They’d written plenty of scenes their editors had axed, and plenty more they weren’t sure would be published, some of which ended up being their best work. But still she hesitated, worried about the personal aspect. The thought of her father reading her book flashed through her mind and her stomach flipped.
“My parents read our books.”
“So do mine.”
“Wouldn’t you be embarrassed?”
“I’m an adult. And we are artists. We get paid for writing. You’ve got to push yourself more Becks. Not let every person you’ve ever known have a say in your work.”
It hurt because it was true, and he knew it. She’d never been able to separate her writing self from her personal life, unlike Jake. Where she worried about the opinions of their friends and fretted over ever bad review, Jake seemed to let it all roll off him without a thought.
“What’s the worst that can happen?” he asked and gave her his most charming smile, making her waver over the edge.
“Have you ever written a sex scene before?” she asked him. She thought of all the painful hours she’d spent alone, trying her hand at erotica, something she’d never told Jake about. She knew writing sex wasn’t as easy as it looked.
“How hard can it be?” he asked and she rolled her eyes.
“Go ahead then, since you’re so cocksure,” she smiled at her own choice of words. “You start the scene. I’ll type.”
She poised her fingers over the keyboard and gave him a challenging look. This should be interesting, she thought. It wasn’t often that she got to put Jake in his place.
“Okay. So they’re at the officer’s ball and Alexis just learned that that little bastard Niles stole her place on the ship bound for the Andromeda galaxy. She’s angry. Greyson has to come out to console her, and that’s where we’ll begin.” He frowned, bit his lip. Rebecca’s insides churned watching him look so seductively engrossed in his own thoughts.
“Try this,” he began. “Captain Greyson opened the door and saw Alexis standing there, her back exposed in the deep swoop of her dress. He felt his cock swell at the sight of her smooth skin, her curves.”
Rebecca made a face as she typed.
“I don’t know. You sure you want to just start throwing cock around so soon?” she couldn’t stop the laugh that escaped her throat.
“Okay then miss erotic specialist. Why don’t you give it a try?”
Rebecca frowned again, hesitated. It was easy to criticize him but now that the ball was in her court, she hesitated. Where to even begin?
“You know what I think? I think we need some inspiration,” he said and gave her a wicked smile. She didn’t like the gleam in his eye. Her heart fluttered for just a second with hope of what he might be proposing but he jumped up from his chair and started scanning her bookshelves. “What’s the raunchiest book you’ve got?”
Oh boy. “I don’t have raunchy books.”
“Come on, I know you. I’ve seen you hiding those romance novels from me. You’ve got to have some around here. They have sex scenes in them don’t they?” He continued to scan her shelves, weaving his finger along the spines of all her precious books, looking for something he would certainly not find in her living room. She watched him working his way around the room and debated telling him. Before she could make up her mind he was already heading down the hall.
She jumped out of her seat and knocked her coffee, spilling it on their freshly printed draft.
“Damn it!” She tried to mop up the mess with the towel as she looked down the hall toward her bedroom with worry in her eyes. She left the towel and the wet pages and headed after him.
